High School Students Prepare for Author Visit

Ann Arbor-based author, Patrick Flores-Scott is scheduled to engage with students in Mrs. Draper's and Dr. George's ACL classes, as well as Mr. DeLeon's Creative Writing classes, during second semester.  The visit is scheduled for February 26th and is partially funded by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council.
Mr. Flores-Scott is the author of two novels-- Jumped In and American Road Trip.  His accessible novels both feature characters that face decisions during pivotal moments in their lives.  In his class presentation Flores-Scott, a former school teacher, relates his own journey from struggling reader to published author.

In advance of the visit, students in the two ACL classes had the opportunity to receive their own copy of Jumped In to read.  The books were purchased by Mrs. Kissel with library funds.  Dr. George is excited to give her students a peek into the writing process of a published author and thinks the experience will inspire her students to become better writers.  Mrs. Draper is enjoying watching students interact with one another as some of them read the book at the same time.  "It's really fun to watch them connect with one another on a different level as they discuss parts of the story.  My students are doing this entirely on their own," said Draper.
